Hey babes! I hope everyone had an amazing week. I’ve been super disconnected from my phone/social media this week, as I’ve been trying to spend more time being present with my family and friends. Sometimes you just need to disconnect and re-charge, you know?
A few days ago, I finally did something I’ve considered doing for quite a long time now. I got HAIR EXTENSIONS! As someone with naturally fine hair, I’ve always struggled when it comes to the volume of my hair. No amount of dry shampoo or texture spray seems to make my hair full enough, especially when my hair is long. The struggle is very real when it comes to having fine, thin, long hair that looks more and more flat the longer it gets.
Similar to lash extensions (you can see that post here), hair extensions are not something to do on a whim. There is plenty of research necessary before scheduling an appointment for hair extensions, because you want to make sure your hair will be handled with care when getting the extensions applied. When I found out that my favorite hair salon, Vincent Palumbo Salon in Westport, CT, now offers hair extensions – I was ecstatic and knew I HAD to go there to get the extensions done.
My entire family and I have been going to Vincent Palumbo Salon for as long as I can remember. I have always gone to Vincent Palumbo for a cut with Nadia, and for highlights with @stephanie_vpsalon (Stephanie McDermott). Both of them are AMAZING, so make sure to ask for them when you go to the salon! When I discovered hair extensions were offered at the salon by @stephariabeauty (Stephanie Aria Arocha), I knew I couldn’t trust anyone other than Steph to apply them.
The hair extension process begins with getting color matched prior to the appointment. I went to the salon a few days before the application appointment in order to get color matched. This process took about 5 minutes — it was SUPER quick! We went with a blend of two different blonde shades that, together, perfectly match the color of my hair with my highlights.
Below, you’ll see the entire hair extension application process. The photos document everything from the start of the matching process, to before/after photos of my hair with/without the extensions in. There is such a major difference! I’m addicted. Check out my photos below:
Below are some DOs and DONTs when it comes to Hotheads Hair Extensions.
DO:
- Wait 24-48 hours before washing or chemically processing your hair
- Use a soft bristle brush, starting at the ends and working your way up. Always brush in a downward motion. Brush before and after shampooing to keep hair from matting.
- Use a good leave in conditioner from mid-shaft to ends, keeping away from the adhesive bands.
- Wear your hair in a ponytail when swimming, exercising, or sleeping.
- Have a licensed professional remove and reapply your extensions.
DON’T:
- Use any products containing alcohol, oil, or ethanol.
- Brush hair harshly.
- Go to bed with your hair wet.
- Chemically process your hair at home.
- Remove the extensions yourself.
And there you have it! I am absolutely OBSESSED with my extensions so far, and I can’t believe it took me so long to try them. Thanks to Vincent Palumbo salon, I finally found a salon that I trust to apply the extensions, and I will certainly continue to go to Vincent Palumbo to have the extensions reapplied time and time again.
Vincent Palumbo offers 25% off for new clients. To schedule your appointment, call 203-454-8600 or visit their website here. If you have any additional questions about the hair extension process, let me know in the comments below or DM me on Instagram! I am happy to answer any questions that I can.
I hope everyone has a happy Sunday and a wonderful New Year!
