This post is a long time overdue. Better late than never, amiright? About a month ago, I spent a weekend in Houston, Texas. It was my very first visit to Houston, and H-Town certainly did not disappoint! The reason for my visit was to spend time with my older brother, Cameron, who recently moved from Dallas to Houston. A few of my cousins were able to join us on the trip, and together, we had an absolute blast.
The trip began on a Thursday after I hopped on a flight straight from work. I landed around 7pm, and we immediately went to one of the most DELICIOUS Mexican restaurants I’ve ever been to, called El Tiempo on Washington. It was sooo good and they had amazing margaritas, enchiladas, and queso. What more could anyone want after a three hour flight? Or, just, you know.. in general.
The next morning, I enjoyed coffee and breakfast out on the apartment balcony while accompanied by the cutest little niece that ever lived (my brothers french bulldog, Parfait). Together, we had an awesome view of the Astros baseball stadium and watched of all the fans coming and going to the play-off game. My cousin, Kellen, and I walked around a bit and got some amazinggg Texas BBQ at an awesome spot called Jimmy’s. We then had a relatively low-key night catching up with family and eating some pizza, before heading to one of my absolute favorite bars for a drink. If you’ve never heard of Truck Yard, you are seriously missing out. I first went to the Truck Yard location in Dallas last year, and fell in love. The Houston location is just as awesome, if not even more exciting. There is a FERRIS WHEEL inside the bar. I mean.. how cool is that?
Truck Yard is also known for their Trash Can Punch, which is a frozen drink that consists of…. well, I’m not exactly sure what. You see, the menu literally says “New Amsterdam vodka & other good stuff” so I mean, I’m not sure anyone really knows exactly what’s in it. All I can say is that if you are in the Dallas or Houston area, you MUST go to Truck Yard and try the Trash Can Punch. I wish we had a Truck Yard in Charlotte! Fun fact: when my roommates and I went to the Truck Yard in Dallas last year, we asked the owner why there wasn’t a Truck Yard location in CLT. He responded by letting us know that there was a location “in the works” in CLT and he was really excited about it. Now that it’s been a year and a half and there is still no Truck Yard here, I’m thinking that was probably a lie. FAKE NEWS.
On Saturday, we started our day with an amazing brunch at one of the cutest restaurants I’ve ever seen called The Dunlavy. The Dunlavy had such a long line, so I knew it must be an extremely hoppin’ place to be before we even tried it. The food was awesome, and the decor inside the restaurant was gorgeous – there were dozens of chandeliers hanging from the ceiling! From there, we went to Present Company, which is my new favorite place. Present Company is hands down one of the coolest restaurant/bars I have ever been to. Basically, to sum it all up in the best way I can, it’s an Instagrammers Paradise (cute decor and photo opps EVERYWHERE). We continued to bounce around to multiple bars throughout the day, with plenty of family bonding and delicious drinks involved.
I shopped at an adorable boutique called Emerson Rose, where I bought the cutest Leo necklace. I’ve always been intrigued by my zodiac sign – not because I am big into horoscopes and all that, but mainly because everything I’ve ever read about a “Leo” describes a person I only WISH that I could be. Leos are a “fire” sign, and are described as being extremely bold, outgoing, and fearless. For that reason, I’ve always been intrigued by my zodiac sign, and when I came across the cutest, dainty gold necklaces, I knew I had to have one. I’ve linked similar necklaces below. Every sign is adorable!
On Sunday, we went to a delicious brunch at an adorable spot called A’bouzy before I had to head to the airport. The waitstaff would gather around our table and cheer every time they open a bottle of champagne. I’ve never seen anything else like it– it was crazy!!
Hope you enjoyed my quick little recap of my trip. I definitely plan on going back to Houston in the near future so I can see even more of the city. Please let me know if any of you have been to any of these places by leaving me a comment below!
